Anne M. Dijkstra, PhD (University of Twente) works as an assistant professor at the University of Twente, faculty of Behavioural Sciences. She studies the relationship between science, technology and society from a communication perspective. Her research focuses on science communication, risk communication and public participation regarding new technologies such as biotechnology, genomics, human enhancement and nanotechnology.
As a coordinator she designed the track Science Communication of the newly accredited master Science Education and Communication. At the moment she teaches the following courses: Science Communication & New Technologies, Science Education & Communication, Science Journalism.
In 2008 she defended her thesis with the title ‘Of publics and science. How publics engage with biotechnology and genomics’. Before, she worked amongst others as a project leader & (science & risk) communication advisor.
Anne Dijkstra is involved in organizing public meetings for the Science Café Deventer (www.sciencecafedeventer.nl). Every second Wednesday of the month, an academic speaker presents a lecture and discusses issues raised by an interested public.
For younger people there is the Children’s Science Café, Zabuki (www.zabuki.nl), also every second Wednesday of the month.
Recently, Nature published about it: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v475/n7356/full/475296c.html
