Ties Brands MSc.
|
Ties Brands grew up in the south of the Netherlands, in a village called Gemert. He spent his university years in the far east of the Netherlands, in Enschede. He embarked on the course civil engineering, specifically traffic engineering in the later years of the course, and simultaneously took up applied mathematics, applied to the field of traffic and transport. He finished his master’s degree by writing his thesis at Goudappel Coffeng. This thesis concerned optimization of the tolls in road pricing. This was the reason for him to move to the beautiful town of Deventer. He became a consultant for Goudappel Coffeng in the field of public transport modeling, cost benefit analysis and mobility management the following year. He has combined this work with a PhD research at University of Twente from February 2010 onwards. This research involves applying network optimization techniques to the multimodal network of the Dutch Randstad area, with various objectives, including sustainability objectives. Ties likes music; both listening at home or at a concert and playing it himself on the accordion or the recorder. In addition to this, he likes running, while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Deventer. Once in a while, he participates a running race to measure his performance. |
