Research Area |
Thin layer flow problems in particular related to Elastohydrodynamically lubricated contacts as they appear in rolling element bearings, cam-followers, between gear teeth and in human (artificial) joints. Modelling and simulation (prediction) of incontact behaviour and free surface thin layer flow around the contact under all conditions, fully flooded, starved, and mixed lubrication, including time dependent effects of loading conditions and roughness passing through. Development of simple design models for use in engineering. Development of new grease lubrication mechanisms based on nano-scale separation layers and activated wetting. Experimental validation using optical interferometry in single isolated contacts. Development of optimally efficient multiscale/multilevel/multigrid numerical solution algorithms for applications in engineering (e.g. lubrication, fluid mechanics, structural mechanics, acoustics) and physics (long range interaction computations and particle simulations). (Systems of) partial differential equations, integral equations, e.g. Fredholm, integral transforms (with smooth, asymptotically smooth, and oscillatory kernels), and particle simulations. |
