The student association: Vortex

About the association

VORTEX is the student association of the Engineering Fluid Dynamics group at the University of Twente. The aim is to create an enjoyable ambiance between the master students, the PhD students and the staff. Besides keeping you updated about the developments in the area of fluid dynamics, VORTEX stimulates a pleasant working environment by organizing activities as outlined below.

Activities

Several times during the academic year a lunch presentation is scheduled, given by members of the group or a guest. By attending these presentations you acquire an insight in the research topics within the group.

On a monthly base, a get-together is organized, with drinks and some snacks. This is a nice opportunity to chitchat about any kind of subject or to come up with brilliant ideas for your project. The last get-together before the Christmas holiday usually gets some special attention.

Once during the year, an excursion to a company or an institute, involved with fluid dynamics, for instance Shell or Marin is organized. It gives a broader view of what is possible with the knowledge you acquire within the research group. Furthermore, it is always interesting to watch laboratory facilities.

At the end of the academic year, it is a tradition to have a barbecue with some music and tell each other funny stories that have happened during the year.
