Two-Disk Rig
This two-disk rig is one of the golden oldies in the laboratory. Its primary use is friction and wear measurements under conditions of so-called 'full film lubrication'. This means that the two surfaces of the disks are completely separated by a thin lubricant film. The presence of such a film in a tribological contact usually minimises both the friction and the wear. Because both disks are driven completely independently, a wide variety of contact conditions is possible, from pure rolling to pure sliding. The laboratory also has a 'new two disk rig'. |
