Auke Talma

Auke G. Talma, PhD

Auke G.Talma was born on November 25, 1953 in Geleen in the Netherlands.

He studied chemistry at the Government University in Groningen, the Netherlands, where he recieved his degree in (synthetic) organic chemistry. His PhD degree he obtained also from the Government University of Groningen in organic chemistry under the supervision of prof. R.M. kellogg on a thesis entitled: "Synthetic Depsipeptides, applications as hydrogenases and ionophores".

After his PhD he was appointed as post-doc at the Technical University of Twente, the Netherlands where he worked in the group of Prof. D.N. Reinhoudt. Subsequently he moved to the industry to a small company, Sentron v.o.f. and joined Akzo Nobel Chemicals in 1987 from where he moved into the joint venture Flexsys. He became involved in peroxide chemistry, co-agents and polymers. He became involved in rubber chemistry in 1989 when he introduced bis-citraconimides into rubber.

His fields of interest in rubber include: peroxides, novel molecules to improve rubber/tire performance (accelerators, coupling agents, co-agents etc.) mechanistic (model) studies and structure property relations.

Currently he is employed by Akzo Nobel Chemicals as Senior Research Chemist. He is (co-) author of over 25 papers and (co-) inventor of over 35 patents.

Auke Talma is married to Tetta Talma-Pijlman, they have three children; one son Tjalling and two daughters Martje and Richtje.
