Progress monitoring and regulative processes in inquiry learning

Description of research

Scientific discovery or inquiry learning is a way of learning that, for non-expert learners, can only be successful in a sufficiently supportive learning environment. The current set of studies focuses on providing learners with support for the regulative aspects of inquiry learning. The support that is evaluated in a set of consecutive studies concentrates on tracking. It concerns a) concept map based overviews of the progressive coverage of the domain by the learner and b) expert hints on the student’s trajectory through the domain. In the final study differences between on-demand and system-initiated trajectory support are examined.
