BE COOL! Promoting intellectual giftedness during collaborative inquiry learning and learning by design
Description of research
Intellectually gifted students are offered minimal scope to develop their talents. The common learning materials provide them with little challenge. As a result, they are often put to work individually on different assignments without given any feedback. Subsequently, these students are often socially excluded from their classmates.
The BE COOL!-project intends to steer clear of these imperfect learning conditions by deploying a learning environment combining inquiry learning and learning by design. A difference could be made while both skills seem to be of great importance for the development of highly gifted students. What’s more, cooperation of highly gifted students and (below) average students within this environment could create the opportunity for them to take advantage of each other’s social and cognitive skills, ánd the intellectually gifted students get to take up their own position in the class context.
