Activity recognition and activity assessment

Description of research

Research is currently focused on measuring various aspects of human and animal motion. The goal is to determine what motion features need to be sensed to answer questions about the person’s current activity such as: what activities are being performed, what is the estimated intensity of the activity, what tools or objects are involved in the activity, is the person walking and where is he going? Motion is sensed through inertial and magnetic sensors attached to the body. Wireless sensor networking is an important aspect of this research, both between sensors on the body of the person(s) involved and distributed in the local environment.
