Underwater Monitoring Platform

Description of research

Underwater communication has recently been a focused research area and find many potential applications such as marine life data collection, underwater navigation, seismic activity and pollution monitoring to name a few. One of the research challenges in practical realization of underwater sensor networks is an efficient power management that encompasses unique network topology, state of the art network protocols and finally an energy efficient transducer driver design.

This part of work is concerned with the specification and design of energy efficient acoustic driver electronics, integrated in the power management of the sensor node. New topologies must be found that incorporate power amplification stage along with power conversion, that can handle limited battery voltages. IC integration will enable the use of a large number of power switches and complex control in a small form factor.
