Information Retrieval for Children
Description of research
Most Information Retrieval (IR) systems are designed for adults. They return the information in a way which is either hard for children to understand or includes unsuitable contents.
PuppyIR will help children search the Internet safely and successfully by the design of an Open-Source platform of child-friendly information services. It will design components which make the IR systems suitable for children needs and make an easier interaction between children and information services.
To achieve these aims, the project will focus on the following four topics:
Interface and interaction design, Information services for children, Open source software development and User-centred and system-centred evaluation.
They are divided into four work packages.
In this project, I will contribute to the work package 3(WP3), where it tackles a set of interrelated research questions pertaining to the interaction of children with information services. The focus will be on presentation, mining and language issues for the appropriate development of these information services.
