Optimization in Health Care

Description of research

The main research area is the relation between patient flows/logistics and (human) resource management. The study focuses on improvements in planning and control from strategic to operational level. The aim of the research is to develop models and methods that (may) improve the quality of delivering health care services, especially with respect to the planning and scheduling of the healthcare workforce. The research addresses topics like: optimizing a workforce (a team of employees with different skills) in relation to the expected work, shift scheduling and rostering based on (dynamic) staffing expectations and mid-term planning of workforce capacity in relation to (seasonal) changes in demand.
