Mission
1. Mission Statement
The Center for Philosophy of Technology and Engineering Science (CEPTES) exists to promote scholarship and research in the philosophy of technology and engineering science, and to encourage scholarly exchanges between philosophy, engineering science, and social science. The center is dedicated to bridge the gulf between the humanities and engineering sciences, and to helping to develop and disseminate a philosophical understanding of technology and engineering science and their impact on society.
The Center pursues its mission both locally, nationally, and internationally. Locally, within the confines of the University of Twente, the Center strives to foster interdisciplinary cooperation between the department of philosophy and the schools, institutes and programs of engineering science, and to facilitate and support interaction and cooperation between the social and behavioral sciences and the engineering sciences at the University. Nationally and internationally, the Center strives for interaction with similar centers and programs, functioning as an internationally recognized Center of Excellence for its field of inquiry.
The Center strives to foster international exchange of scholars, to organize national and international colloquia and conferences within its area of expertise, and to function as an international center of excellence in research. The Center also strives to disseminate its research results to a wider audience, both professional and popular, and to be a leading participant in contemporary societal and political debate regarding the functioning and impact of technology and engineering science in society.
