Regulation free programme CiT/CEM/CME

Elective (free course)

An elective (free course) is a course that is not part of the regular study programme described in the student charter (OER). Examples of electives (free courses) are:

·

A course at another university in The Netherlands or abroad

·

An assignment (so-called capita selecta) in consultation with a staff member of CiT/CEM/CME

Partial replacement of a course by an alternative in which the original number of EC remains the same, is not a part of this regulation but is a responsibility of the teacher of the course. However if necessary both student/teacher can consult the examination committee.

Bachelor

When a student wants to replace course from the major programme it is considered to be a free programme. The student will have to ask approval of the examination committee.

Master

Every student in the CEM programme is allowed to replace a maximum of 7.5 EC by electives (free courses) without formal approval of the examination committee. If the replacement exceeds 7.5 EC formal approval is needed and the programme is considered to be a free programme. A student in the CME programme has to ask permission for all electives (free courses), except the courses that are labeled E in the student charter.

The examination committee CiT/CEM/CME has established the following restrictions with respect to electives (free courses):

General

The student should obey the following rules:

·

Electives (free courses) should at least be at the same level as the courses they replace

·

Electives (free courses) may not overlap the CiT/CEM/CME examination programme of the student involved

·

Electives (free courses) may not overlap the minor programme of the student involved

·

Students who have a free programme should satisfy the exit qualifications of the programme

Overlap electives (free courses) with regular courses

When (partial) overlap exists between the electives (free courses) and the regular courses of the student, the examination committee will establish which part of the electives (free courses) can be part of the examination programme of the student.

Advice

The student can consult the student adviser with respect to electives (free courses). When the student has done electives (free courses) without the need of formal approval of the examination committee, the student adviser will assist BOZ CiT with the verfication of the programme. In case of doubt both the student and the student adviser can summit the programme for approval to the examination committee.

Start date

This regulation will be effective as of december 1st 2010 and replaces Regeling keuzevakken_versie 2 (not available in English).
