Welcome at the only campus university of the Netherlands! Inspired by reputable universities like Oxford and Cambridge, renowned architects in the sixties designed this lively place where education, research, sports, culture and student life come together. From lecture halls, high-tech research facilities and sports facilities to cultural centre, supermarket, restaurants and cafés, here you have everything close at hand. The campus is situated on the Drienerlo estate; a green, woody environment.

Studying at the University of Twente

Studying at the University of Twente means an entrepreneurial attitude, an internationally-oriented perspective, and working in an interdisciplinary way. We engage in relevant issues at the interface of technology and society; like sustainability, energy, health and safety.

Discover where your strength lies as a researcher, designer or organiser. By working in projects, you will familiarise yourself with different professional roles and themes within your area of specialisation. Together with your student counsellors, you determine what you will focus on. Acquiring and applying knowledge go hand in hand at the University of Twente. New is ATLAS, the first University College with a focus on engineering in the Netherlands.

A hot meal every day

You don't have the time or don't fancy cooking? In the Mensa, the student restaurant, you can have a hot, affordable meal every day. Simple or more elaborate, it's up to you. There is also an abundant offer of rolls, snacks, desserts and drinks. The coffee corner is a favourite here! The Mensa is located in the colourful building the Waaier.

Pioneering at the University College

From 2013, at the O&O-square you will find ATLAS: the Academy of Technology and Liberal Arts & Sciences. A unique University College in the Netherlands for talents with an interest in both exact sciences and non-exact subjects.

ATLAS has been founded for ambitious top talents who wish to develop themselves in a broad sense and see finding creative solutions to complex problems as a challenge. The University College distinguishes itself with a thematic set-up, attention for technology and the engineering approach. In addition, you will have the opportunity to choose your own subject (personal pursuit) by which you can develop a totally new side of yourself for example in music, drama, sports or development work.

Keep it cool

10 metres deep, a 30-metre diameter and a capacity for 10,000 m3 water: this is the Koudecirkel. This cooling pond is used as a cooling system and sprinkler buffer for buildings at the O&O square. An innovative and energy-saving solution.

An innovative new electric car

Don't be frightened when you see the noiseless Renault Twizy driving by suddenly! This innovative four-wheeled vehicle plays a major role in the research into electric transport in cities. In the Mobility Lab Twente, researchers and students of Industrial Design Engineering and Electrical Engineering are studying how users react to electric vehicles and how they deal with these. The research is conducted in and around the campus.

Enschede student city

With some 22,000 students, there is always something to do in Enschede. With its pubs, discotheques and more than 100 cultural, sports and student associations, the old city centre breathes a great atmosphere. Also ITC, our faculty for Geo Information, Science and Earth Observation, is located in this city.

Ultra quick internet

The University of Twente is the first university in the world with an ultra-quick gigabit connection on the campus. With 1gigabit per second, it is quicker than anywhere else.

Three-star hotel rooms

Conference hotel Drienerburght has been a household name on the campus for 25 years. Everybody is welcome here! The hotel is the place for conferences and meetings and welcomes guests from all over the world.

On stage

The Vrijhof is the cultural centre on the campus. Here, you can visit concerts, exhibitions and take cultural courses. There is an art library and you can become a member of one of the twenty cultural student associations. While looking out across the water and the campus, you can enjoy an excellent espresso or cappuccino and a wonderful lunch. Close to the Vrijhof are the premises where parties and festivals are regularly held. Campuspop is only one of the many highlights of the past few years.

The tower

The Hague has its torentje (the official workplace of the prime minister), and so does our campus. The Tower of Drienerlo is one of the best known places on the campus. Why is half of it situated underwater? There are many theories for this... The object d'art, a design by Wim T. Schippers, was built in 1979 and has for many years been part of the University of Twente's logo.

Super-de-luxe sports centre

Want to have a break? Indulge yourself in our Sports Centre. The facilities and group classes on offer are many. Do you prefer playing sports with other people? If so, join one of the many student sports associations. From football to boxing, kite surfing and gliding, you name it, there will be an association for it. With 15 people you can also found your own association.

Your own patch

On the campus you live close to everything and everybody. In total some 2,200 students are living on the campus today. You can choose from all sorts of accommodation, from student house to apartment. Just what you fancy and can afford. There is a supermarket, a hairdresser, an employment agency, a sports centre, restaurants and cafés, all at walking distance. And with the public transport or by bicycle you are in Enschede's city centre in no time.

Let the games begin

In addition to the large Sports Centre, the campus has as many as nine beach fields. The beach volleyball premises are the largest in the Netherlands.
