The University of Twente proudly presents ATLAS, the University College. Starting in September 2013, this unique programme aims to educate the engineers of the future: talented individuals interesting in both technical and social sciences who want to contribute to solving the challenges of tomorrow.
ATLAS is the only technology-driven Liberal Arts & Sciences programme in the Netherlands with a new approach to engineering. The three-year, fully English taught BSc programme is for ambitious students who want to look beyond solutions-at-first-sight, and turn them into socially meaningful, technologically driven change. Each semester has a real-world issue at its core. From global urbanization to human movement, smart 3D printing or the feasibility of a Mars Space Station, the world is waiting for creative solutions and multi-disciplinary approaches.
The ATLAS programme is distinctive for its thematic approach featuring problem solving training and project-driven, cooperative learning. Throughout the entire programme you will be able to pursue an area of personal interest as credited study, supported and guided by an ATLAS tutor or external expert, providing opportunities to further develop as an individual like dance, music, visual art, sports, a second language, a teaching certificate, public service, or an international internship.
When you have graduated from ATLAS you will be part of a new generation of engineers: academic all-rounders, process thinkers and opinion leaders. You will be able to create original solutions and turn them into real, technology driven changes that make the world a better place to live in.
ATLAS is for students with the ambition and drive to blaze new trails. Are you interested in engineering, technology and social issues? And can you excel at all of them? Then you could be one of our pioneers. You will form a community with the other ATLAS students, both studying and living together. This allows you to create a strong sense of shared identity with your fellow students. And because of ATLAS’ international profile, the residential community allows for peer-to-peer learning by sharing cultures, experiences and discoveries as you progress through the programme.

When we start the ATLAS programme in September 2013, it will be the beginning of a totally new way of learning. A way of learning that is driven by the challenges facing our future society, inspired by innovative solutions that draw on diverse and multi-talented thinkers and doers. Our programme, the first to merge technology with liberal arts & sciences, is aimed at ambitious students from around the world who will be learning and living together, as part of a dynamic university campus.
