What exactly is implied in the study?

European Public Administration is the international form of public administration. We discover Europe and the EU from 4 different perspectives: Law, economics, politics and sociology.

Which job opportunities do I have with a European Public Administration degree?

As an EU-expert you can apply the complex European system on particular national governmental affairs. An example could be a job in a national foreign ministry in the office for European affairs. If you would like to go to Brussels, to the heart of the EU, you could work in some department of the European Commission or the European Parliament. And also embassies in foreign countries are looking for Europe-experts as well as the WTO in Geneva! But also in companies, interdisciplinary educated people are needed to coordinate and enforce all the regulations coming from Brussels. Furthermore, non-governmental organizations (NGO´s) are more and more involved in decision-making processes within the EU. Therefore, these organizations need people, knowing about the institutions as well as regulations of the EU. Here, one main point is often fund-raising.

Is there a one- or two year master for European Public Administration?

There are two forms of a European Studies master: one takes one year and the other one 1,5 years. In the latter one, you will also take courses at the University of Münster, Germany.

Is European Public Administration a technical study? Do have to be good in mathematics?

European Public Administration is no technical study. It should be enough if you had mathematics in school. You will need it for all in the subject: quantitative research skills.

What is the usual work amount per week (in hours)?

The average European Public Administration-student works about 40 hours per week. During the exam period this might become a bit more of course. During free-time, many students are busy with managing student associations or clubs.

What is the proportion of self-study compared to lectures?

It is a quite balanced relationship between the two. As the proportion is about 50%/50%.

Which teaching methods are used?

European Public Administration is teached for all in form of projects, lectures, turorials, and self-study.

What kind of examinations are employed?

Most subjects are examined by a ususal exam (either multiple choice or open questions). Some subjects however, do also have an oral examination or some kind of project-paper.

Is there a lot of English literature?

All the literature used, is in English since also all the courses are taught in English. This might be difficult for some students at the beginning but you will get used to it quickly as you will talk English to the other students too and may even start thinking in English some time.

Is there an internship incorporated in the curriculum?

At the end of year 3 you will have to write your final thesis. In context with this, you can conduct research in cooperation with an extern company. Furthermore, there is a minor at the beginning of year 3, which you can choose on your own. Here, you can also choose for an internship.

Are there any partnerships with universities abroad?

The University of Twente has many contacts to foreign universities, among others through the Erasmus-Program. If you would like to study at another university, you can do so in the third year of your study, during your minor or master. Furthermore conduct many of your lecturers research in cooperation with colleges from abroad.
