Selection procedure

Even if you meet the general admission requirements and you have received confirmation from the Admission Office that you are or will be eligible for admission, you will still have to participate in a selection procedure, since Creative Technology has a limited number of available places (an admissions quota applies).

For the 2013-2014 academic year, the Creative Technology programme will fill all of the 120 available places through decentralized selection. We will assign prospective students a spot on a ranking list, and the available places will be filled in accordance with this ranking. Please click here for more general information on decentralized selection. Registrations before 15th of April 2013 will follow decentralized selection. Registrations after 15th of April will be put on a waiting list.

Procedure for registrations BEFORE April 15th (decentralized selection).

1.

Apply before 15 April 2013 through this link (in Studielink).

2.

You will receive on your emailaddress (given in Studielink) a confirmation email of the University of Twente, which contains information on delivering additional documents.

3.

The requirements for these additional documents (guidelines of a good portfolio and what we expect from a CV) you will find here.

4.

Once you have registered for Creative Technology in Studielink, you will be invited for an application interview between January and June 2013. You will be expected to ‘pitch’ your creativity and your affinity with technology to the Selection Committee. International students will be able to attend an application interview on Skype.

5.

The Creative Technology programme ranks applicants and submits this list to DUO (Dutch governmental organization, responsible for study grants to students), which then selects students for 2013-2014. Ranking is based on the following selection criteria:

a.

Affinity with creativity: you are interested in or have experience with creative processes (generating ideas and creating impact).

b.

Affinity with technology: you want to learn how products work and why they work. You want to understand how technology works at an abstract level. You also want to build prototypes by linking components and applying your knowledge of technology.

c.

Working in teams: you enjoy working in teams, you understand the pros and cons of working in a group, you are aware of your contribution and you are open to improvement.

d.

School results: the committee will consider your overall results at school. Indicators that show a lack of affinity with technology will not work in your favour.

e.

Programme orientation: you have prepared yourself thoroughly for the Creative Technology programme. You have gathered information about the programme (e.g. from the website, brochure) and you have attended the Open Day or participated in an individual orientation day (Meeloopdag) (does not apply to international students).

6.

We will submit the rankings to DUO on 15 June. We will subsequently inform you of your specific ranking on the list. In the second half of July, once the results of the final examinations are processed, DUO will complete the allocation of places in the programme, and you will receive a certificate of admission if you are selected. You will then be able to enrol in the programme. (Note: if you have foreign qualifications, your certificate of admission may be delayed depending on verification of your diploma or certificate.)

Procedure for registrations AFTER April 15th

The registration deadline (2013-2014) to participate in decentralized selection for Creative Technology has passed. If you didn’t register before April 15th, it is not possible to take part in this first selection. If you still wish to be eligible for a place in Creative Technology, you will be put on a waiting list (first register via Studielink). You will be informed by mid-August whether you are accepted or not.

If you are interested to be put on this waiting list, please follow this procedure (please note: if you’re a Dutch student with a Dutch VWO-diploma, you only have to follow steps 1 and 2d):

1.

Register in Studielink;

2.

Send the following documents digitally to admissionoffice@utwente.nl:

a.

Copies of your diploma and grade list (or when you have not graduated yet, copies of a temporary grade list)

b.

A copy of your passport/ID card

c.

Additional proof of your English proficiency (click here for requirements)

d.

A motivation letter, short cv and a portfolio

Admission Office will review your documents, when all of the above attachments have been received. After a positive assessment (which means: all of the required documents have been received digitally, your identity can be verified and your diploma meets the requirements for admission), you will receive a formal notice via email that your application has been accepted and has been forwarded to the Creative Technology Selection Committee for an interview. The selection committee will contact you.

After August 15th , you will be notified whether you have been selected for admission to the programme. If you choose not to participate anymore, please withdraw your registration via www.utwente.studielink.nl.
