Structure

Advanced Technology is a unique Bachelor’s programme in English, which can only be followed at the University of Twente. Unique because you focus on several subject areas. Electrical Engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physics, business administration, marketing...to name just a few. All Advanced Technology research is application-driven. You will develop technologies which meet the demands of society, of our (knowledge-driven) economy and which can be of practical use in our vastly-changing world.

First year: the foundation

The first year provides you with a solid theoretical foundation for the rest of the programme. During lectures, you will become acquainted with basic disciplines and will discover the integration between subject areas such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, electrical engineering and business administration. Additionally, you will develop the skills you need as a technological pioneer. You will develop these experimental skills by means of laboratory practice and projects, during which, for example, you will develop accelerometers and solar cells.

Second year: application-driven innovation

In the second year, you will learn how to become an application-driven innovator, through research, design or consultancy projects. Your knowledge and skills will help you to translate discoveries into inventions that offer a solution to a social or commercial problem. In the second year, you will also take electives.

The third year: the Bachelor's final project

In the third year, you will formulate two thirds of your year programme yourself from a broad selection of subjects, projects and laboratory practice. You will conclude this programme by means of a final Bachelor's project for you to demonstrate what you are capable of as an AT-student. After the Bachelor's programme, you will be awarded the title of 'Bachelor of Science' (BSc).

Yearroom

You will attend all your lectures in a year-room. There you are given the opportunity to study and carry out research with fellow students. You will also receive all the guidance you need to be able to gain access to Advanced Technology's international field of activity.
